The KA3525 SMPS Controller IC is a monolithic integrated circuit that contains all of the necessary control circuitry for a pulse width modulating regulator. A 5V voltage regulator capable of giving a current of up to 50mA to an external circuit, an error amplifier, a pulse width modulator, an oscillator, under-voltage lockout, soft start circuit, and output drivers are all included in this KA3524 device. The output transistor of the regulator and each output switch of the device are both internally current limiting. An internal thermal shutdown circuit was used to keep the junction temperature under control.
This complete PWM power management circuit allows them to operate at frequencies higher than 430KHz while maintaining frequency stability over time. Meanwhile, it has a 1000mW power dissipation. This SMPS control circuit provides single-ended or push-pull outputs, as well as external component protection through the current limit amplifier. Furthermore, the On-chip protection guarded against high junction temperatures and output current. As a result, the user receives a 5V, 50mA linear regulator output.
The oscillator in KA3525 uses an external resistor (RT) to establish a constant charging current into an external capacitor (CT). While this consumes more power than a PC linked in series, it results in a linear ramp voltage on the capacitor. This is also used as a reference for the comparator.
