L293D motor driver defined as a 16 pin, monolithic integrated, high power driver for driving DC motor. The L293D designed as a dual H bridge motor driver capable of driving a pair of DC motors or a single stepper motor. Hence it can control up to 2 DC motors with direction and speed control independently. That means it can individually drive up to two motors making it ideal for building two-wheel robot platforms. For motors with operating voltage less than 36V and operating current less than 600mA, which are to be controlled by digital circuits like Op-Amp, 555 timers, digital gates or even Micron rollers like Arduino, PIC, ARM, etc..L293D will be the best choice
L293D contains two inbuilt H-bridge driver circuits. During its common mode of operation, two DC motors driven simultaneously, both in forward and reverse direction. Thus the motor operations of two motors controlled by input logic at pins 2 & 7 and 10 & 15. Input logic 00 or 11 will stop the corresponding motor. Whereas the logic 01 and 10 will rotate it in clockwise and anticlockwise directions, respectively. For motors to start operating, the Enable pins 1 and 9 (corresponding to the two motors) must be high. When an enable input is high, the associated driver gets enabled and outputs become active and work in phase with their inputs. Similarly, when the enable input made low, that driver is disabled, and their outputs are off and in the high-impedance state.
Applications of L293D Dual H- Bridge Motor Driver IC:-
- High Current Motor Driver IC.
- Dual H-bridge for controlling up to two motors at a time.
- Perfect for Inductive load decoupling from the main/control unit.
- Wide voltage range allows for an adaptive voltage range control.
