This APDS-9930 Gesture Sensor Digital Proximity And Ambient Light Sensor For Arduino is designed specifically to detect motion or human gesture within a detection range. The APDS-9930 provides an Ambient light sensor (ALS) Â compatible with the I2C interface and a proximity sensor with infrared LED in a single 8-pin package. The ambient light sensor uses a dual photodiode at a range of approx. 0.01 lux illumination. This module is widely used in applications where a motion/human gesture is detected from behind glass within a close range. Its high sensitivity allows the device to operate in the back of the dark glass.
Programmable interrupt capability with upper and lower thresholds up to 16-bit resolution offers high sensitivity operation behind dark glass. This is achieved by the micro-optical lens providing infrared energy required for efficient transmission and reception. Thus reducing the overall power consumption. This eliminates the need for factory calibration of the end equipment or sub-assembly. The wide dynamic range also allows for operation in short distance detection behind dark glass such as a cell phone. The proximity function offers plug and plays detection at a range of 100 mm (without front glass). Moreover, an internal state machine provides the ability to put the device into a low power mode in between ALS and proximity measurements providing very low average power consumption. The photopic response to light intensity is provided by ALSÂ in very low light conditions or behind a dark faceplate.
