LM35 is defined as a high precession Integrated circuit Temperature sensor, whose output voltage varies, with respect to the temperature around it. This compact-sized, cheap IC is used to measure temperature anywhere between -55°C to 150°C. LM35 generally gives temperature output that is highly precise than thermistor output without any external calibration circuitry. This Linear Monolithic IC LM35 is an integrated analogue temperature sensor whose electrical output is proportional to Degree Centigrade.
However, LM35 can be interfaced easily with any Microcontroller that consists of ADC function or any development platform like Arduino. Hence the sensor features low output impedance, a linear output, and precise inherent calibration makes interfacing to readout or control circuitry quite simple. The LM35 operates at an input voltage from +4 volts to 30 volts consuming about 60 microamperes of current.
PIN DESCRIPTION:
- VCC: Supply Voltage (4V – 30V)
- Out: Analog Output Voltage proportional to the temperature (in degree Celsius).
- GND: Ground
Moreover, the LM35 IC is powered by a regulated +5V (VS) voltage+5V (VS) to the input pin and the ground pin connected to the ground of the circuit. Under the condition, if the temperature is 0°C, then the analogue output voltage will also be 0V. Thus for every degree Celsius rise in temperature, there will be a rise of 0.01V (10mV) in output. Thus the analogue voltage output converted  to a centigrade temperature by
Centigrade Temperature = Voltage Read by ADC / 10 mV(mills Volt)
1 /10 mV indicates a linear scale factor for LM35 is 10mV.
Applications:
- Measuring the temperature of a particular environment
- Providing thermal shutdown for a circuit/component
- Monitoring Battery Temperature
- Measuring Temperatures for HVAC applications.
