Seven segment displays are very commonly used display system nowadays. 7 segment displays are quite led displays used to display time in digital watches, display speed of automobile in cars, on old buffers, washing machines and electrical panels etc. Though there use is tremendously decreased thanks to the invention of lcd’s. But they’re in used today in many appliances. Seven segment display contains 7 led’s in it. Which are toggled to form a selected number. Maximally you’ll display a digit 9 on one 7 segment ranging from 0.
The seven segments displays are the oldest yet one among the efficient sorts of display utilized in embedded applications. This display has nothing quite 8 LED inside it. These 8 LEDs are separated into each segments which may be named as a,b,c,d,e,f,g. These entire 8 segment LEDs have one end of their pins pulled out of the module and therefore the other ends are connected together and pulled out because the Common pin. So to form an LED of a specific segment glow we just need to power common pin along side the segment pin. this manner we will power quite one segment at a time to represent the numeric number 0-9 and also few Alphabets as shown on the graphic image below. We even have an choice to show a decimal point using the DP pin.
By Apply +5 volts to dp(decimal/display point) pin serial to a 510 ohm-1k ohm resistor to limit the present . If you would like it to illuminate for ever apply +5v. If you would like to regulate dp(decimal/display point) led than connect it to some system , microcontroller etc
