The 74LS295 designed as a high Speed 4-Bit Right-Shift Left-Shift Register IC. As a high-speed multifunctional sequential building block, this IC widely employed in a wide variety of applications. Â It utilizes the Schottky diode clamped process to realize high speeds and is fully compatible with all TTL families. The register offers four distinct modes of operation:
- Parallel (broadside) load
- Shift right (in the direction QA toward QD)
- Shift left (in the direction QD toward QA)
Furthermore, synchronised parallel loading is accomplished by applying four bits of data and driving both mode control inputs, S0 and S1, HIGH. After the clock input transitions from HIGH to LOW, the data is loaded into the associated flip-flops and appears at the outputs. The input of serial data flow is inhibited during parallel loading. When the mode control is kept low, the shift right is executed simultaneously. When the mode control is kept high, the output of each flip flop is connected to the parallel input of the previous flip flop (QD to input C), and serial data enters at input D.
When the output control is high, the normal logic level of four outputs available for driving the load or bus lines. The low logic level at the output control input disables the outputs independently of the clock level. The output is then high impedance, with no load or drive bus line present. However, the register’s sequential operation is unaffected. Shift registers are a type of digital memory circuitry found in calculators, computers, and data processing systems. Data or bits are entered into the system in a serial or parallel way using a shift register.
