The 74LS299 is a 3-state output 8-bit universal shift/storage register. There are four different modes of operation: hold (store), shift left, shift right, and load data. The 74LS299 IC is capable of working in a wide range of working voltages and environments. And it works with CMOS, NMOS, and TTL directly. The IC’s output is always in TTL, making it simple to interface with other TTL devices and microcontrollers. The IC 74LS299 is smaller in size and has a significantly higher speed, making it extremely reliable in any device.
The supply voltage for the 74LS299 is between 4.75 and 5.25 volts. This IC is designed to work in the whole military temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. The 74LS299 is available in 20-pin PDIP wide body surface-mount packaging. The 74LS299 IC can be soldered directly to the circuit board or installed on a 20-pin IC base with ease.
Shift registers are a type of digital memory circuitry found in calculators, computers, and data processing systems. Data or bits are entered into the system in a serial or parallel way using a shift register. Data entry begins in one way and shifts locations as more data is entered until the data reaches the output end. The left and right ends are referred to as the left and right ends, respectively. Whereas data is moved from left to right, right to left, or both directions to create a bidirectional register.
