Description

The 74HC595 is a shift register with an 8-bit serial input and parallel output. This IC receives serial data (input) and controls 8 parallel output pins. This is useful when our MCU/MPU does not have enough GPIO pins to control the needed number of outputs. This IC is widely used in projects that require a Microcontroller to control a large number of LEDs. Because they may operate as the data bit for LCD displays, they can also be utilised to interface LCD screens. Because the high-level voltage is only 3.15 volts, it can also be utilised to control 5V loads like relays using a 3.3V microcontroller.
