BT139 designed as a Planar Passivated sensitive gate four quadrant TRIAC in a TO-220AB package, explicitly for use in applications requiring high bidirectional transient and blocking voltage capability and high thermal cycling performance. BT139 comes as a ‘series E’ triac intended to interface easily with microcontroller, logic integrated circuits and other low power gate trigger circuits.
A Triac designed as a solid state silicon AC switch in which the gate triggered from an off-state to an on-state for either polarity of applied voltage. Triacs are one of the most prominent device in the electronic system widely used in AC power control applications. These devices are capable of switching to high voltages and high levels of current, and over both parts of an AC waveform. This makes triac circuits perfect for use in a range of applications where power switching is necessary. Moreover, Triac circuits commonly used in light dimmers for domestic lighting. And also used in many other power control situations.
Due to the high performance of the device, triacs tend to used for low to medium power electronic switching applications. Triac comes with three terminals named as Annode 1, Annode 2and Gate. Gate terminals in the triac function as a trigger to turn the device on. In addition to this the other terminals are Anodes, or Main Terminals. These terminal named as Anode 1 and Anode 2 or Main Terminal 1 and Main Terminal 2 (MT1 and MT2). While operating triacs, it is both MT1 and MT2 offers very similar properties.
