Description

CA3130A is a MOSFET-based BiMOS Operational Amplifier. The name BiMOS refers to a technology that combines the benefits of both bipolar and CMOS op-amps. High bandwidth (rapid switching) bipolar op-amps perform well, but CMOS op-amps perform well by using less current. As a BiMOS op-amp, the CA3130A offers the benefit of high bandwidth operation and low current consumption. Because the op-amp is made of MOSFETS, it has a high input impedance. When a sensor’s output voltage is connected to the op-inverting amp’s or non-inverting pin, the op-amp does not function as a load on the sensor. As a result, the sensor’s output voltage will not be affected.

This Gate-protected P-Channel MOSFET (PMOS) transistor is utilised in the input circuit to give extremely high input impedance, extremely low input current, and extraordinary speed. Meanwhile, using PMOS transistors in the input stage allows for common-mode input voltage down to 0.5V below the negative-supply terminal, which is critical in single-supply applications.

The output circuit is a CMOS transistor pair capable of swinging the output voltage to within 10mV of either supply-voltage terminal (at very high load impedance values). Supply voltages for the CA3130 Series circuits range from 5V to 16V (+/-2.5V to +/-8V). They contain connections for adjusting offset voltage for applications requiring offset-null capability and may be phase corrected with a single external capacitor. Strobing of the output stage is also possible thanks to terminal facilities.
