CD4049 Hex Buffer or Converter IC

CD4049 designed as a Hex Inverter (NOT gate) IC-based on monolithic complementary MOS (CMOS) technology. This  IC come with six NOT gates inside it and each gate provide one input and one output pin. All six NOT gates powered with a common rail, but can operate independently. This Converter IC widely used in buffer circuits and wave generator circuits. The CD4049 has an inverted hex buffer and supports logic-level conversion with just one supply voltage (VCC). The input-signal high level (VIH) can surpass the VCC supply voltage when these devices are utilized for logic-level conversions. These devices designed explicitly for use as CMOS to DTL or TTL converters and drive directly two DTL or TTL loads. (V_CC = 5 V, V_OL ≤ 0.4 V, and I_OL ≥ 3.3 mA.)

The CD4049 offers a wide operating voltage range of 3V to 18V, making it ideal for high voltage applications. Because it’s an inverter IC, it converts logic levels from HIGH to LOW and LOW to HIGH. As a result, it’s commonly employed in logic-level conversions. A voltage greater than 18V may harm the IC in some circumstances. In general, the CD4049 IC is employed in situations where the operation is dependent on one of two states: 0 or 1. For instance, basic LED torches, automated streetlights, and so forth. Simple toggling circuits, voltage multiplier circuits, and a square wave oscillator circuit all employ this component. It can also be used to reverse the output.
