This is a small force sensitive resistor with a square, 1.75×1.5″ active sensing area. The resistance of this force sensor changes depending on how much pressure is applied to the sensing area which can be measured using any microcontroller. Thus the Force sensor responds to the applied force and converts the value to a measurable quantity. The stronger the force, the lower the resistance will be. Under the condition, when no pressure is applied to the Force sensor, its resistance will be larger than 1MΩ. When the full pressure is applied the resistance will be 2.5kΩ. This Force sensor can sense applied force anywhere in the range of 100g-10kg. This module can be easily customized to a wide range of sizes providing a Force Sensitivity Range of 0.1 – 10.02 Newtons.
This sensor contains two pins that extend from the bottom of the sensor with a 0.1″ pitch making it breadboard friendly and making installation quite easier. It should be considered that the base of the sensor is sensitive to bending and may get damaged. Hence care should be taken that you bend only the sensing area.
The sensor is designed with a peel-and-stick rubber backing on the other side of the sensing area to mount the force sensor. This sensor works by just connecting resistance to form a voltage divider circuit and thus measures the voltage at the junction to find the force applied. The force sensor easily interfaces with Microcontrollers, Arduino Boards, Raspberry Pi, etc. using an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC).
