Raspberry Pi Camera Board V2 is defined as high quality 8 megapixel Sony IMX219 image sensor. These custom-designed camera modules with an add-on board for Raspberry Pi, featuring a fixed focus lens. This camera module is used to take high-definition video, as well as stills photographs Raspberry Pi Camera Board is capable of supporting 3280 x 2464 pixel static images and also supports 1080p30, 720p60, and 640x480p90 video. The small sockets present on the upper surface of the board are attached to the pi. This camera module uses the dedicated CSI interface, to attach the small socket designed explicitly for interfacing cameras.
Raspberry Pi Camera Module replaces the original Camera Module v2 in April 2016. The v2 Camera Module has a Sony IMX219 8-megapixel sensor, defined as the highest quality image sensor specifically designed for mobile phones (compared to the 5-megapixel OmniVision OV5647 sensor of the original camera). This Camera Module is also used for time-lapse, slow-motion, and other video cleverness and also with the camera to create effects. It features better image quality, colour fidelity, and low-light performance. Raspberry Pi is connected to it via a 15cm short ribbon cable. Moreover, almost all models of Raspberry Pi 1, 2, and 3 works with cameras and can be accessed through the MMAL and V4L APIs. Picamera Python library is one of the third-party libraries built for it.
Applications:
- CCTV security camera
- Motion detection
- Time-lapse photography
