The 74LS258 Multiplexer IC is designed to multiplex signals from four-bit data sources to four-output data lines in bus-organized systems. The IC is designed to operate over a temperature range of 0 to 70°C. The output of the IC always comes in TTL which makes it easy to work with other TTL devices and microcontrollers. The IC also constitutes a wide array of features such as thermal overload protection & ESD protection. The IC 74LS258 is smaller in size and it has a much faster speed which makes it reliable in every kind of device.
The SN74LVC157A quadruple 2-line to 1-line data selector/multiplexer is designed for 2.7-V to 3.6-V VCC
operation. The device features a common strobe (G) input. When G is high, all outputs are low. When G is low, a 4-bit word is selected from one of two sources and is routed to the four outputs. The device provides true data.
Inputs can be driven from either 3.3-V or 5-V devices. This feature allows the use of this device as a translator in
a mixed 3.3-V/5-V system environment.
A multiplexer/data selector is a digital combinational logic circuit that toggles one of several input lines to a single common output line. The select lines determine which input is connected to the output, and also to increase the amount of data that can be sent over a network within a certain time. It is also called a data selector.
Applications
- They route signals according to an input address.
- They can be used to pass on only signals of interest
