The 74LS322 designed as an 8-bit shift register providing either serial or parallel loading. It operates with 3-state parallel outputs along with a bi-state serial output. It offers Four synchronous modes of operation :
- Hold (store)
- Shift right with serial entry
- Shift right with sign extend
- Parallel load.
Meanwhile, an asynchronous Master Reset (MR) input clears the register by overriding the clocked action. Eight D-type edge-triggered flip-flops make up the 74LS322 IC. An interstage gating required for right shift operations as well as hold and synchronous parallel load operations. Shifting or parallel loading is enabled by a LOW signal on RE. A HIGH signal, on the other hand, activates the hold mode. Shift right is enabled by a HIGH signal on S/P, whereas parallel loading is enabled by a LOW signal. A HIGH signal on SE enables serial entry from either D0 or D1, as decided by the S input, in the shift right mode. The shift right function is enabled by a LOW signal on SE, whereas the sign extend function is performed by Q7 reloading its contents. Regardless of the other control inputs, a HIGH signal on OE disables the 3-state output buffers. The moving and loading procedures will be hampered in this situation.
Storage/Shift registers are a type of digital memory circuitry found in calculators, computers, and data processing systems. Data or bits are entered into the system in a serial or parallel way using a shift register. Data entry begins in one way and shifts locations as more data is entered until the data reaches the output end. The left and right ends are referred to as the left and right ends, respectively. Whereas data is moved from left to right, right to left, or both directions to create a bidirectional register.
