The 74HC595 is a shift register with an 8-bit serial input and parallel output. This IC receives serial data (input) and controls 8 parallel output pins. This is useful when our MCU/MPU does not have enough GPIO pins to control the needed number of outputs. This IC is widely used in projects that require a Microcontroller to control a large number of LEDs. Because they may operate as the data bit for LCD displays, they can also be utilised to interface LCD screens. Because the high-level voltage is only 3.15 volts, it can also be utilised to control 5V loads like relays using a 3.3V microcontroller. So, if you’re seeking for an IC to save your Microcontroller’s GPIO pins, this IC can be the appropriate fit for you. It can also operate at a wide range of voltages, from 2 to 6 volts.
Shift registers are a type of digital memory circuitry found in calculators, computers, and data processing systems. Data or bits are entered into the system in a serial or parallel way using a shift register. Data entry begins in one way and shifts locations as more data is entered until the data reaches the output end. The left and right ends are referred to as the left and right ends, respectively. In contrast, data is moved from left to right, not right to left. Alternatively, you can register in both directions to create a bidirectional register.
