The 74LS85, also known as the SN54/7485, is a four-bit magnitude comparator with two binary format inputs. In electrical equipment, besides to addition and subtraction, binary number comparison is also required to accomplish operations. We employ TTL-based comparators to tackle this problem. The comparator’s main function is to compare the two input bits and then produce three outputs. The output will always be in 3-bits, describing the relationship between the inputs.
