Mega Shield, or RAMPS for short, is a powerful shield. These are made to hold all of the electronics required for a RepRap. For a cheap cost, all of the components are contained in a single tiny box. The RAMPS (RepRap Arduino Mega Shield) is an all-in-one design that combines all of the essential components for a 3D printer into a single Arduino MEGA plug-in shield. For easy maintenance, this plug-in shield design offers plug-in stepper drivers and extruder control electronics connectors. Due to its many extended interface and replacement components functionalities, this control board has a significant upgrade and extension capacity. When the pins on the back of the board are linked to the Arduino Mega, it functions as a controller board. And the front is wired up to stepper motors. Moreover, a number of Arduino expansion boards added to the system as long as the main RAMPS board is kept to the top of the stack.
RAMPS connects an Arduino Mega to the powerful Arduino MEGA platform and allows for plenty of growth. The core of most DIY 3D printers on the market is the ramps board. Also, a more compact solution to incorporate all of the systems into a small container that may be mounted. RAMPS is only functional when it is linked to its Mega 2560 and A4988/DRV8825 motherboards. Because of its ease of use and compatibility with the majority of 3D printers (all RepRap-model such as Prusa i2 and i3). Ramps1.4 + MEGA2560 + A4988/DRV8825 is becoming a popular combo for DIY 3D printers.
