CD4021 is part of the CD4000 IC family. The CD4021 is a parallel input/serial output shift register with eight stages. Individual JAM inputs to each of the 8 stages are enabled by a parallel/serial control input. All outputs are capable of the same source and sink current and follow the standard “B” series output drive.
When the parallel/serial control input is in the logical “0” state, data is serially shifted into the register synchronously with the positive transition of the clock. While the parallel/ serial control is in the logical “1” state, data is jammed into each step of the register asynchronously with the clock. The IC is packaged in a 16-pin hermetically sealed dual in line IC packaging (DIP) that allows it to work with TTL, CMOS, and NMOS devices. Strong noise immunity, ESD protection, and low power dissipation are just a few of the benefits of the CD4021.
Static Shift Registers are digital memory circuits that can be found in calculators, computers, and data processing systems. Data or bits are introduced into the system in a serial or parallel way with a static shift register. Data is entered in one direction, and when more data is entered, the data shifts positions until it reaches the output end. The left and right ends are referred to as the left and right ends, respectively. In the meantime, data is moved from left to right, right to left, or both ways to create a bidirectional register.
