Description

A colour sensor is used to measure or detect the colour of the material. The Colour sensor module based on the TSC3200 colour sensor IC converts light intensity to frequency. It usually detects colour in the RBG scale with an 8×8 array of photodiodes each with either a red, green, or blue filter, or no filter (clear). The filters of each colour are distributed evenly throughout the array to eliminate location bias among the colours. This includes a TAOS TCS3200 RGB sensor chip and also provides filters to reject the unwanted IR light and UV light. In addition, the 4 white LEDs used to light the object, and reflections from that object will strike the TSC3200 colour sensor IC to detect the colour of an object.

TSC3200 colour recognition module has a compact size and operates on a single voltage supply of 2.7V to 5.5V. This module easily interfaced with any microcontrollers that making it the ideal choice for a wide range of applications. To detect the colour of material mainly three types of equipment are required. Initially, a light source to illuminate the material surface. Secondly, a surface whose colour has to be detected and finally the receivers that can measure the reflected wavelengths.

Colour sensors consist of white light emitters as a light source to illuminate the surface. Then Three filters with wavelength sensitivities at 580nm, 540nm, 450nm to measure the wavelengths of red, green, and blue colours respectively. The colour of the material is categorized based on the activation of these filters. A light to voltage converter is also present in the sensor that generates a voltage proportional to the detected colour. The TCS3200 is an oscillator device that generates a square-wave output whose frequency is proportional to the incident light intensity
