This GP2Y0A710K0F SHARP distance sensor, one of the prominent sensors used for many projects. These sensors are used in applications that require accurate distance measurements in an extra long range. It detects objects within the range of 100cm to 550cm. This sensor provides a distance measuring Sensor Unit, consisting of an integrated combination of PSD (position sensitive detector), IRED, and a signal processing circuit. As they adopt the triangulation method, the variety of the reflectivity of objects, the environmental temperature, and the operating duration are not easily influenced by distance detection. Thus the output of the sensor is an analogue voltage corresponding to the detection distance. So this sensor also functions as a proximity sensor.
It senses objects and outputs an analogue voltage corresponding to the distance between the sensor and the object. This analogue voltage is fed to an  ADC for an Arduino/Raspberry Pi or a microcontroller. Or the output provided to a comparator for threshold detection. The analogue voltage out will range from 3V when an object is about 100cm away and 1.4V when the object is 550 km away. Moreover, this sharp sensor has applications in obstacle avoidance or motion sensing to your robot or any other project. Thus this long-range makes them an excellent alternative option for sonar sensors.
The GP2Y0A710K0F consists of a 3-pin JST PH connector that works with our 3-pin JST PH cables. These cables consist of 3-pin JST connectors attached to one end. And equipped with pre-crimped male pins, pre-crimped female pins, and unterminated wires on the other end. In order to stabilize the power supply line, highly recommended to insert a by-pass capacitor of 10μF or more between Vcc and GND.
