The LM723 Precision Voltage Regulator IC designed as a monolithic integrated programmable voltage regulator. This voltage regulator widely used for series voltage regulator applications. LM723 Precision Voltage Regulator IC operates as both positive and negative voltage regulators. Moreover, it is capable of providing up to 150 mA of current to the load. Whereas this can be increased by more than 10A by using power transistors. It also comes with a comparatively low standby current drain, and provision made for either linear or fold-back current limiting. LM723 IC also used as a temperature controller, current regulator or shunt regulator. These IC manufactured in a 14-lead dual-in-line plastic package and metal case package.
The circuit provides internal current limiting. When the output current exceeds 150 mA an external NPN or PNP
pass element used. Moreover, provisions made for adjustable current limiting and remote shutdown. LM723C has its performance ensured over a  −55°C to +125°C. These high precision voltage regulator features high ripple rejection, excellent input and load regulation, excellent temperature stability, and low standby current. The circuit consists of a temperature-compensated reference-voltage amplifier, an error amplifier, a 150-mA output transistor, and an adjustable-output current limiter. For output currents exceeding 150 mA, additional pass elements connected. This IC operates at an input voltage up to 40V and provides output voltage adjustable from 2V to 37 V.
