This is the PCF8574 I/O extended module based on the I2C interface. This used to cascade these modules to extend 8 I/O. The PCF8574 IO Expansion Board is employed as a remote 8-bit I/O expander, in which Up to 8 PCF8574, IO Expansion Boards connected to the I2C-bus, providing up to 64 I/O ports.
This Board consists of an I2C pin header on one side and an I2C connector on the other side. Hence, it’s more flexible to attach these boards to your development system. Moreover, the board also supports I2C cascading, allowing the utilization of multi modules connected to the I2C bus at the same time. This is done by connecting the pin header and connector.
This 8-bit input/output (I/O) expander supports a two-line bidirectional bus (I2C) designed to operate a voltage range of 2.5-V to 6V. Moreover, this Module provides general-purpose remote I/O expansion for almost all microcontroller families communicated via an I2C interface. Therefore, the serial clock(SCL), serial data (SDA) pins control the communication via an I2C bus. As it supports Arduino cascading, at most 8 modules extended to 64 I/O at the same time.
Moreover, the PCF8574 IO Expansion Board features an 8-bit quasi-bidirectional I/O port (P0–P7), including latched outputs with high current drive capability for directly driving LEDs. Without the use of a data-direction control signal, each quasi-bidirectional I/O is often used as an input or output. Under the power-on condition, the I/Os are high in which only a current source to VCC is active. During every 2 seconds, make P0-P7 port output made high level, Low level, and put 3 toggle switches to ON, the address of module is 0x27.
