Microwave Radar Sensor RCWL-0516 is also known as the Mini Doppler Radar sensor module. It operates at a wide voltage range of DC 4-28V. This mini radar motion sensor module works on the principle of Doppler microwave induction technology with the RCWL-9196 chip. When a motion is detected, it will automatically output the continuous high-level TTL signal. It features a 360 degree with no blind angle detection and up to a maximum of 9m of sensing distance with adjustable delay time and sensitivity. It is ideal for DIY microwave motion sensor light switches, human sensor toys, and smart security device applications.
The RCWL-0516 Microwave Radar Sensor module was designed as an alternative option for the common PIR motion sensor. Similar to the PIR sensor, this sensor also detects only movements within its detection range. But this sensor utilizes the microwave Doppler radiation technique instead of sniffing the blackbody radiation from a moving person in the PIR. Hence widely used in burglar alarms and security lights. When triggered, its TTL-level output (OUT) pin switches from LOW (0 V) to HIGH (3.3 V) for a finite time of 2 to 3 sec before returning to its idle (LOW) state.
This flexible Microwave Radar Sensor module is easily used in conjunction with many microcontrollers and even without a microcontroller at all. It is recommended to avoid any metal part in front of the sensor module not to use during construction. And also, always keep a minimum of 1-cm clear space on the front and rear side of the module.
