Nowadays, Power devices defined as innovative technology enabling future development of power converters and systems. These Power Device IC capable of precisely controlling electrical energy from the source to the load according to the load demand, at high efficiency, and with outstanding reliability. A power device IC designed as a semiconductor device acts as a switch in power electronics (ex: switch-mode power supply). Such a type of device known as the power device. Or when used in an integrated circuit, referred to as the power IC.
The VIPER12A designed as a low power offline switched-mode power supply primary switcher. It combines a dedicated current mode PWM controller with a high voltage power MOSFET on the same silicon chip. The internal control circuit of switcher IC offers certain advantages such as a large input voltage range on VDD pin. And also accommodates changes in auxiliary supply voltage (This feature is well adapted to battery charger adapter configurations), automatic burst mode in low load condition, and overvoltage protection in HICCUP mode. Typical This off-line power supply offers a wide range of applications in battery charger adapters, standby power supplies for TV or monitors, auxiliary supplies for motor control, etc
The VDD pin provides power supply of the control circuits. Also provides a charging current during start up that performed by the high voltage current source connected to the drain. In order to perform this function, an hysteresis comparator monitors the VDD voltage and provides two thresholds:
- Â VDDon: Voltage value (typically 14.5 V) at which the device initiates switching and turns off the start-up current source.
- VDDoff: Voltage value (typically 8 V) at which the device ends up switching and initiates the start up current source
