Displaying information is one of the crucial steps in electronic projects. So using OLED has always been one of the most popular ways to display information. This is basically 16 character by 1 line display with high contrast black text on the Green background. 16*1 LCD module consists of 16 columns and 1 row. LCD modules are the most prominent as they are low cost and program friendly, hence these modules are commonly used in the embedded system. It uses an extremely common ST7066U LCD driver IC. This IC gets commands and data from the microcontroller and processes it, thus display it on the screen. And also it is quite simple to work with these LCDs s and they have full compatibility with all microcontrollers and processor boards. This module provides a wide viewing angle and high contrast to the display.
16*1 LCD module consists of 16 columns and 1 rows, so it has 16 (16*1) characters in total. Each character has 40 pixels (5*8) and thus for 16 characters there 640 pixels (16*40). A controller IC HD44780 is attached to the backside of the LCD module and is ready to interface with most of the microcontrollers. The contrast of the screen can be controlled by varying voltage at the contrast control pin 3. This is the most prominent and easily controlled display commonly used in 8051, Arduino, Raspberry pi, etc.
These are commonly used in password-based door systems, sensors, moving message displays, GSM-based digital boards, and other display units. This display module works on 5V and has a green backlight which can be on or off as per requirement. Moreover, it can work in both 4 bit and 8-bit MCU interfaces.
