The 74LS164 designed as a high-speed 8-Bit Serial-In Parallel-Out Shift Register. The input Serial data is delivered through a 2-Input AND gate in this IC, which is synchronised with the clock’s LOW to HIGH transition. There are also gated serial inputs and an asynchronous clear pin on the IC. The 74LS164 IC may be used in a wide variety of working voltages and under a wide range of circumstances. And it works with CMOS, NMOS, and TTL directly. The IC 74LS164 is smaller in size and has a significantly higher speed, making it extremely reliable in any device.
The supply voltage for the 74LS164 is between 4.75 and 5.25 volts. This IC is designed to work in the whole military temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. The 74LS164 is available in 14-pin PDIP wide body surface-mount packages. The 74LS164 IC can be installed on a 14 pin IC base or connected directly to the circuit board.
Shift registers designed as a digital memory circuitry widely used in calculators, computers, and data processing systems. Data or bits are entered into the system in a serial or parallel way using a shift register. Data entry begins in one way and shifts locations as more data is entered until the data reaches the output end. The left and right ends are referred to as the left and right ends, respectively. Whereas data is moved from left to right, right to left, or both directions to create a bidirectional register.
Applications
- Arithmetic-unit registers
- Sequence generators
- Control circuits
