The 74LS190 comes as a part of the 74XXYY IC series. 74LS1904-Bit Binary Counter IC circuit designed as a synchronous up-down BCD Decade (8421) counter offering an inherent complexity of 58 congruent gates. The operating modes of the 74LS190 decade counter and the 74LS191 binary counter are same, except the count sequences. The IC operates a wide range of working conditions, a wide range of operating voltages, and directly interfaces with CMOS, NMOS, and TTL. These compact-sized IC in terms of chip size provides quite faster propagation speed. Thus makes it highly reliable in every kind of device.
In 74LS190, State changes of the counters occur as synchronous with the LOW-to-HIGH transition of the Clock Pulse input. An asynchronous Parallel Load (PL) input overrides counting and loads the infrmatin present on the Pn inputs into the flip-flops. Thus makes it possible to use the circuits as programmable counters. A Count Enable (CE) input functin as the carry/borrow input in multi-stage counters. An input t Up / Down Count Control (U/D) decide whether a circuit counts up or down. A Terminal Count (TC) output and a Ripple Clock (RC) output provide overflow/underflow indication. And change a range of methods for generating carry / borrow signals in multistage counter applications.
A decade/BCD counter defined as a serial digital counter that count up to 10 decimal digits. It goes through 10 unique combinations of output & RESETS for each new clock input. A BCD counter can count 0000, 0001, 0010, 1000, 1001, 1010, 1011, 1110, 1111, 0000, and 0001 then on.
Application:
- Used in sequencers & LED Chasers.
- Â PCs, notebooks, Digital Electronics, Networking equipment & Radio / RF equipment, etc.
