The 78L08 positive voltage regulators supplying a positive voltage of 8V. 7808 designed as three terminal regulators is available with several fixed output voltages making them useful in a wide range of applications. These regulator ICs offer very acceptable levels of performance for a wide range of applications. These regulators are widely used in local on card regulation, eliminating the distribution problems associated with single point regulation. The voltages available allow these regulators to used in logic systems, instrumentation, HiFi, and other solid state electronic equipment
And additionally, to the present, these IC available at an affordable rate and quite easy to use. 7808 consists of only three terminals, i.e. input, output, and ground, they require no external components for electronics basic operation. 7808 regulators available within TO-220 package and with several fixed output voltages. Thus making them useful during a wide selection of applications.
Moreover, these regulator features internal current limiting, thermal shut-down, and safe operating area protection, making it essentially indestructible. Under the condition, if adequate heat sinking provided, they deliver over 1A output current. Although these IC basically designed as fixed voltage regulators, these devices often used with external components to provide adjustable voltages and currents. Three-terminal voltage regulators have three terminals namely input as unregulated (Vin), regulated output (Vo) and customary or a ground terminal. These regulators eliminate the need for any feedback connections
Current limiting feature limit the peak output current to a safe value. Whereas the Safe area protection for the output transistor ensured to limit internal power dissipation. Incase, if internal power dissipation becomes too high for the heat sinking provided, the thermal shutdown circuit takes over preventing the IC from overheating.
