Description
The 74LS257 Quadruple 2-Line to 1-Line Data Selector are quad 2-Input Multiplexers with 3-state outputs. A Common Data Select input selects four bits of data from two sources. The selected data is presented in true (non-inverted) form in the four outputs. With a HIGH on the common Output Enable (E O) Input, the outputs convert to a high impedance condition. As a result, the outputs can communicate directly with bus-oriented systems. Meanwhile, these integrated circuits were created using the Schottky barrier diode technique for high speed and are fully compatible with all ON Semiconductor TTL families.
In bus-organized systems, the 74LS257 is used to multiplex signals from 4-bit data sources to 4-output data lines. When the output-enable (OE) input is set to a high logic level, the 3-state outputs do not load the data lines. The SN54ALS257A is designed to operate in the complete military temperature range of 55 to 125 degrees Celsius.
A multiplexer (or mux) is also known as a data selector in electronics. A multiplexer is an electronic device that accepts two or more inputs. Based on the Select line status, one of them is provided as the output. Multiplexers are also utilised to implement multiple-variable Boolean functions.
