LM7905 designed as negative voltage regulators supplying a fixed output voltages of −5V, −12V, and −15V. 79xx voltage regulators commonly utilized in electronic circuits. The main purpose of this IC is to provide the required regulated negative voltage to the circuits. IC 7905 can supply a continuing negative voltage output, in spite of any voltage fluctuations in its input voltage. These IC often mainly found within the circuits during which integrated circuits that need +Vcc and – Vcc used.
7905 -05V Negative Voltage Regulator IC requires only one external component i.e. a compensation capacitor at the output. The LM79XX series manufactured in the TO-220 power package. And is capable of supplying 1.5A of output currenternal current limiting safe area protection and thermal shutdown for protection against virtually all overload conditions. Moreover, low ground pin current of IC ensures output voltage to easily boost above the preset value with a resistor divider. The low quiescent current drain of those devices with a specified maximum change with line and load ensures good regulation within the voltage boosted mode.
These IC designed as a integrated circuit utilized in a circuit to provide a continuing negative input voltage. The amount 79 indicates that it’s a negative transformer and xx indicates the output voltage of the IC. ‘xx’ often replaced by the controlled output voltage provided by the regulator. For ex: 7924, then the output voltage of the IC comes as -24 V. Similarly if it’s 7912, then output voltage of the IC is -12 volts then on. The name of the IC may vary supported by the manufacturer as LM79xx, L79xx, MC79xx etc.IC 79xx requires heat sink for its safe operation. Heat sink boosts heat dissipation therefore the life of the device can be extended.
