ADXL345 was designed as an integrated, compact, ultra; low power, 3-axis MEMS accelerometer with signal conditioned voltage output. It can sense acceleration with a full-scale sensing range of +/-2G to +/-Â 16G. This 3 axis accelerometer measures dynamic acceleration (motion, shock, or vibration) and also static acceleration (tilt or gravity). This is the breakout board for analogue devices used for sensing motion and accelerometers using I2c or SPI communication with digital output data formatted as 16-bit twos complement.
The MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanical System) consists of a micromachined structure made of the silicon wafer suspended freely, which allows it to deflect in any direction when subject to acceleration. Thus, this deflection cause change in capacitance between plates and structure. Hence the change in deflection on each axis is measured as the output voltage proportional to acceleration on that axis. Using the CX, CY, and CZ capacitors the bandwidth of the accelerometer at the XOUT, YOUT, and ZOUT pins is determined by the user.
In order to interface with different devices of microcontrollers, a MOSFET-based voltage level circuitry is used with output data ranging from 10 Hz to 3200 Hz same as Arduino. Apart from the above, necessary components like decoupling capacitors, filter capacitors, pull-up resistors and LED are also provided on board. These have applications in the field such as handsets, gaming and pointing devices, industrial instrumentation, personal navigation systems, etc.
