The CD4063BMS designed as a 4-bit magnitude comparator widely used in computer and logic applications where two 4-bit words must be compared. This logic circuit compares two 4-bit words (Binary or BCD) to see if one is less than, equal to, or larger than the other. The CD4063BMS features eight comparing inputs (A3, B3, through A0, B0), three outputs (A B, A = B, A > B), and three cascade inputs (A B, A = B, A > B) that let system designers can increase the comparator function to 8, 12, 16,… 4N bits. The cascading inputs are linked as follows when a single CD4063BMS is used: (A B) = low, (A = B) = high, (A > B) = low.CD4063BMS devices can be cascaded for words longer than 4 bits by connecting the less significant comparator’s outputs to the more significant comparator’s cascading inputs. The least significant comparator’s cascading inputs (A B, A = B, and A > B) are linked to a low, a high, and a low level, respectively.
