HB100 Miniature Microwave Motion Sensor designed as an X-Band Bi-Static Doppler transceiver module. This module works on the principle of the Doppler effect. This transceiver module comes with an inbuilt Dielectric Resonator Oscillator (DRO) and a pair of Microstrip patch antenna arrays. Thus making it perfect for usage in motion detection equipment. This module offers a wide range of applications in alarms, motion detectors, lighting control, vehicle speed measurement, and automatic doors.
This Miniature Microwave Motion Sensor module operates at a voltage of +5 Vdc for Continuous wave (CW) operation. Â But the module can be powered via +5V low duty cycle pulsed trains in order to reduce its power consumption. It is recommended to use a sample & hold circuit at the IF output required for pulse operation).
Doppler Principle
Doppler theory based on time. When a  radio wave hits on an object in the moving process, it is reflected when the waves. As a result,  the frequency of the reflected wave will hit the object with the movement results to change state. Whereas, If the radio waves encounter an object whose position is fixed. Then the reflected wave frequency and transmitting frequency waves should be equal. In so case If the object moves toward the launch, then the reflected waves will be compressed. This results in an increase in the frequency of the reflected wave; otherwise, the reflected wave’s frequency decreases.
Note: While connecting, highly recommended to use a low voltage soldering iron and connect it to a reliable grounding. This device is sensitive to ESD and it may be damaged during soldering. The IF output of the HB100 module is especially sensitive. Using a multimeter in diode mode, we can check if there exist any damages. . The forward voltage drop between IF and GND should be about 0.25 V.
