The Leap Motion Controller is designed as an optical hand tracking module that captures the movements of your hands with unparalleled accuracy. It is simply a small USB peripheral device designed to be placed on a physical desktop, facing upward. It is a remarkably accurate, incredibly natural way to interact with your computer. This LEAP Motion controller allows for the tracking of the user’s hands and fingers in three dimensions. This allows the user to interact with the simulation’s virtual elements by the user’s very hand position, movement, and gesture.
The device observes a roughly hemispherical area, to a distance of about 1 meter using two monochromatic IR cameras and three infrared LEDs. The LEDs generate pattern-less IR light[30] and the cameras capable of generating almost 200 frames per second of reflected data. This signal is further transmitted through a USB cable to the host computer. Where the Leap Motion software synthesizes 3D position data by comparing the 2D frames generated by the two cameras.
This device is used for productivity applications with Windows computers, integrated into enterprise-grade hardware solutions or displays, or attached to virtual/augmented reality headsets for AR/VR/XR prototyping, research, and development. Moreover, the controller is capable of tracking hands within a 3D interactive zone that extends up to 60cm (24″) or more, extending from the device in a 120° x 150° field of view. Leap Motion Controller software discern almost 27 distinct hand elements, including bones and joints. And track them even when obscured by other parts of the hand. It accurately tracks all 10 fingers up to 1/100th of a millimetre with zero visible latency. Thus our hands are free to move in 8 cubic feet of interactive, 3D space. Thus by waving a hand or lift of a finger, you can browse the web, read articles, listen to music.
