The LM2409 Monolithic Triple 9.5ns is a high-voltage CRT driver circuit intended specifically for colour monitor applications. The IC is made up of three wide band amplifiers with high input impedance that drive the RGB cathodes of a CRT directly. Each channel’s gain is adjusted to -14 internally, allowing it to drive CRT capacitive loads as well as resistive loads supplied by other applications, with the sole limitation being the package’s power dissipation. The IC is housed in an 11-lead TO-220 moulded plastic power package, which is industry standard. The LM2409 is a three-channel high-voltage monolithic CRT driver designed for high-resolution display applications. The LM2409 may be powered by both 80V and 12V.
The LM2409 has a wide bandwidth amplifier function that necessitates correct power supply bypassing for optimal operation. If the power supply is bypassed incorrectly, large overshoot, ringing, and oscillation might result. Internal arcing on a CRT can occur during normal operation. Spark gaps in the range of 200V at the cathodes will limit the maximum voltage, but only to a value that is far greater than the LM2409 permits. The LM2409 output stage might be damaged by this fast, high-voltage, high-energy pulse. This may be avoided by setting the output voltage of the LM2409 to a safe level. The LM2409, on the other hand, requires a heat sink to function. This is due to the fact that the power supply current rises as the input voltage rises.
