This Nano Ethernet Shield is designed specifically to connect the Arduino Nano to a network. These are assembled with long stackable pin headers, and there is no need to solder the headers separately. This Shield is designed based on an ENC28J60 Ethernet chip which provides a network (IP) stack capable of both TCP and UDP. In order to write sketches make Use of the Ethernet library which connects to the internet using the add-on module. This Nano Ethernet Shield operates with the power 5VÂ from Nano board and converts to 3.3V (on shield have 3.3V LDO. This Ethernet shield supports half and duplex mode and also provides programmable padding and CRC generation makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. It also provides programmable automatic rejection of erroneous packets and programmable automatic retransmit on collision.
ENC28J60 was designed as a 28-pin, 10BASE-T stand-alone Ethernet Controller with onboard MAC & PHY, 8 Kbytes of Buffer RAM, and an SPI serial interface for 3.3V and 5V logic. Nano Ethernet Shield with compact size and small footprint package minimizes complexity, board space, and cost. As a result, the target applications include VoIP, Industrial Automation, Building Automation, Home Control, Security, and Instrumentation. The ENC28J60 Ethernet Module is an industry-standard Serial Peripheral Interface(SPI). It serves as an Ethernet network interface for any controller equipped with SPI. SPI interface serves as a communication channel between the host controller and the ENC28J60. Moreover, the bus interface interprets data and commands received via the SPI interface.
