A bi-directional RS232 to RS485 converter adapter module transforms a full-duplex RS232 port to a half-duplex two-wire RS485 interface. The RS232 to RS485 converter adapter does not require any external power, making it simple and safe to use. This module has several uses in industrial automation control systems, IC cards, entrance guard systems, parking systems, and other areas.
The RS485 converters are used for multi-drop networks because up to 32 devices are connected in one network to communicate on a single pair of wires (plus a ground wire). Because RS485’s maximum transmission distance is substantially greater than RS232’s, the RS485 converter is relatively noise resistant. RS485 has a range of 1200 miles, but RS232 only has a range of 15 metres. As a result, noise on the signal lines is not immune to RS232. The RS232 is susceptible to noise, which restricts its maximum transmission distance and speed. This module has built-in optical isolators that separate the data lines within the device. As a result, noise, high voltage spikes, surges, and ground loops are all avoided.
The RS232 serial port has a DB-9 female connector, whereas the RS485 port has a DB-9 male connector, making electrical interaction easier. Two different terminal blocks with a built-in 120 Ohm termination provide the adapter maximum versatility. The machine, which is powered by RS232 data lines and housed in a tough ABS enclosure, runs at speeds ranging from 300 to 115,200 bits per second. Great performance, high stability, and a high-speed device make this converter suited for a wide range of applications.
