TinySwitch family introduced by Power Integrations designed as the latest generation of its industry-leading TinySwitch series of off-line switcher ICs. An off-line regulator, basically a complete integrated circuit with all functionalities. This device is necessary to ensure clean power to a small portable or handheld device.
TinySwitch-combines a high voltage power MOSFET switch with a power supply controller in one device. Unlike conventional PWM (pulse width modulator) controllers, it uses a simple ON/OFF control to regulate the output voltage. The controller consists of an oscillator, enable circuit (sense and logic), current limit state machine, 5.85 V regulator, BYPASS/MULTI-FUNCTION pin Undervoltage, overvoltage circuit, and current limit selection circuitry, over-temperature protection, current limit circuit, leading-edge blanking, and a 650 V power MOSFET. Moreover, the TinySwitch-LT features an additional circuitry for auto-restart, adaptive switching cycle on-time extension, and frequency jitter.
An off-line regulator is basically a complete integrated circuit with all functionalities necessary to ensure clean power to a small portable or handheld device. Or used as part of a larger switched-mode power supply (SMPS) or DC-DC converter. Moreover, it features line-compensated overload power protection. As a result, the TinySwitch-4 devices dramatically reduce the maximum overload power that can be delivered into the load over the entire AC input voltage range. The 650 V MOSFET easily allows 80 percent de-rating for high reflected voltage and high bus-voltage designs. Meanwhile, it offers an Efficiency of greater than 70 percent at five percent load. This enables designers to meet the stringent European standard specification requirement.
