Description

TOPSwitch-GX is based on the established TOPSwitch architecture, offering a cost-effective solution. This IC has a single CMOS chip with integrated high voltage power MOSFETs, PWM control, fault prevention, and other control circuitry. Various functionalities are also integrated to save system costs and increase design flexibility, performance, and energy efficiency.

Based on package type, either 1 or 3 additional pins over the TOPSwitch standard DRAIN, SOURCE and CONTROL terminals. This allow the certain features such as line sensing (OV/UV, line feed-forward/DCMAX reduction), accurate externally set current limit, remote ON/OFF. Moreover, it also offers a synchronization to an external lower frequency, and frequency selection (132 kHz/66 kHz). Soft-start, 132 kHz switching frequency (automatically lowered at light load), and frequency jittering are included in all package variants for reduced EMI. There are also larger creepage packages, a wider DCMAX, and hysteretic thermal shutdown. Furthermore, all essential parameters (current limit, frequency, and PWM gain) have tighter temperature and absolute tolerances, making design easier and lowering system costs.

TOPSwitch-GX is an integrated switched mode power supply semiconductor, similar to TOPSwitch. It transforms a control input current to a duty cycle at a high voltage power MOSFET’s open-drain output. The duty cycle of the power MOSFET reduces linearly with increasing CONTROL pin current during normal operation. Both the high voltage power MOSFET and the proprietary high voltage CMOS technology are possible. And all of the low-voltage control circuitry must be integrated into a single monolithic chip at a cheap cost.
