Water Level sensors are used to detect the level of water. This water level controller is used in a pump, an indicator, an alarm, or other devices. The water level sensor module is easy-to-use and cost-effective with a high level/drop recognition sensor. It consists of a series of ten parallel wires exposed to copper traces to measure droplets/water volume in order to determine the water level. These 10 parallel wires, five of which are power traces and five are sense traces. These traces are interlaced with each other so that there is one sense trace between every two power traces. Normally these traces are not connected instead bridged by water when submerged. The onboard power LED indicates the power status of the sensor.
The output water level values can be easily monitored and output analogue values. These analogue values are easily read by the ADC and connected to the Arduino development board to achieve the level alarm effect. As a result this series of parallel exposed wires conductor together acts as a variable resistor. The resistance value of this variable resistor varies according to the water level. This change in resistance depends on the distance from the top of the sensor to the surface of the water. As the resistance is inversely proportional to the height of the water. More water the sensor immersed in offers better conductivity and will result in a lower resistance. Whereas less water the sensor is immersed in results in poor conductivity thereby offering higher resistance.
The Water Level Depth Detection Sensor operates at a voltage range of DC 3V-5V and an Operating current of less than 20mA. The Sensor generates analogue output signals according to the water pressure with its Detection Area of 40x16mm.
