This Xbee with USB Base Board is designed specifically for wireless communication projects. XBee baseboard module improves power output efficiency and data protocol. As this XBee comes from Series 2 modules allows the creation of complex mesh networks based on the XBee ZB ZigBee mesh firmware. These modules feature highly reliable and simple communication between microcontrollers, computers, systems, anything with a serial port. Also, Point to point and multi-point networks are supported.
XBee Adapter is defined as a compact USB to serial adapter designed with BEE (20pin 2.0mm) sockets. This module consists of an integrated FT232RL IC, used for programming or communicating with a board which basic Arduino but without a USB interface, like Sniffer Nano. Moreover, this module can connect your PC to various wireless applications via the BEE compatible modules. This XBee USB adapter (CP2102) unit works with all XBee modules including the Series 1 and Series 2.5, standard and Pro versions. By Plugging the unit into the XBee Explorer, and attaching a USB cable. Finally, you will have direct access to the serial and programming pins on the XBee unit.
The XBEE baseboard consists of a CP USB to Serial chip on it. Hence you can connect it to your computer via USB. The CP connection is made in such a way that it can reprogram the XBee modules to change the firmware. The USB cable powers the board. This XBee USB adapter (CP2102) board comes up with the XBee XB24-Z7WIT-004 modules from Digi.
These onboard LED indicators in the module indicate Power, RSSI, Din & Dout. This module is defined as a basic breakout board for the ZigBee module for interfacing to PC via USB. Using XCTU software you can even program the Xbee module in this breakout board. This version of XBee is the same as that of the older Series 2.5, but have updated firmware. They will also function with Series 2.5 modules if you update the firmware through X-CTU.
