Description

The 74LS166 is a shift register with an 8-bit resolution. The 74166 is a parallel-in or serial-in, serial-out shift register with 77 equivalent gates, gated clock inputs, and an overriding clear input with a complexity of 77 equivalent gates. The shift/load input determines whether the mode is parallel or serial. The 74LS166 IC is capable of working in a wide range of working voltages and environments. And it works with CMOS, NMOS, and TTL directly. The IC’s output is always in TTL, making it simple to interface with other TTL devices and microcontrollers. Furthermore, the IC 74LS166 is smaller in size and has a significantly faster speed, making it highly trustworthy in any device.

74LS166 Operates at a supply voltage of range between 4.75V to 5.25V. This IC designed for operation over the full military temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. 74LS166 manufactured in 14−pin plastic PDIP wide body surface-mount packages. Meanwhile, this IC  can be soldered directly to the circuit board or easily mounted on a 14 pin IC base.

Shift registers are a type of digital memory circuitry found in calculators, computers, and data processing systems. Data or bits are entered into the system in a serial or parallel way using a shift register. Data entry begins in one way and shifts locations as more data is entered until the data reaches the output end. The left and right ends are referred to as the left and right ends, respectively. Whereas data is moved from left to right, right to left, or both directions to create a bidirectional register.

Applications

  • Sequence generators
  • Control circuits
  • Arithmetic-unit registers
  • Shift-left-shift-right registers
  • Serial-to-parallel/parallel-to-serial conversions
