C106M Thyristor 600V 4A designed as a standard gate triggering SCR, which is the fully isolated package. It is used in situations where a high bi-directional voltage blocking capability is required as well as protection from overvoltage. A thyristor is a four-layer semiconductor device made up of P-type and N-type materials that alternate (PNPN). An anode, a cathode, and a gate are the three electrodes of a thyristor (control electrode).
The silicon-controlled rectifier is the most popular type of thyristor (SCR). No current flows until a pulse is given to the gate when the cathode is made negatively charged relative to the anode. The SCR then starts to conduct and keeps conducting until the voltage between the cathode and anode reverses or falls below a specific threshold value. Large amounts of power can be switched or controlled with a modest triggering current or voltage using this sort of thyristor. Thyristors are also commonly found in motor speed controls, light dimmers, pressure-control systems, and liquid-level regulators.
