The PIC16F628A designed based on Microchip Technology. These are low-cost, high-performance, 8-bit, fully static, with Flash-based CMOS microcontrollers. These microcontrollers employ an advanced RISC architecture with only 35 single-word/single-cycle instructions. All instructions in this microcontroller exist in a single cycle (200 µs) except for program branches, which also take two cycles. The PIC16F628A microcontroller devices provide better performance in an order of magnitude higher than their competitors in the same price category.
Meanwhile, this PIC microcontroller provides enhanced core features, an eight-level deep stack, and multiple internal and external interrupt sources. It supports Harvard architecture with separate instruction and data buses. That allow a 14-bit wide instruction word with the separate 8-bit wide data. Whereas the two-stage instruction pipeline allows all instructions to execute in a single cycle. Except for program branches (which require two cycles). A total of 35 instructions (reduced instruction set) are available, complemented by a large register set.
PIC16F628A is quite easy-to-use and also easy to remember instruction set reduces development time significantly. Moreover, they typically achieve a 2:1 code compression and a 4:1 speed improvement over other 8-bit microcontrollers in their class. In addition to it, it has integrated features to reduce external components, thus reducing system cost, enhancing system reliability and reducing power consumption.
