PIC18F2550 is a microcontroller IC with a full-featured USB communications module that complies with USB Specification Revision 2.0. As a result, for all supported data transmission types, the module functions flawlessly with both low-speed and full-speed connectivity. Furthermore, this PIC IC has an on-chip transceiver and a 3.3V regulator. Also, external transceivers and voltage regulators are supported. Both programmed memory and data EEPROM were provided by the Enhanced Flash cells. They can withstand tens of thousands of erase/write cycles – up to 100,000 for programmed memory and one million for EEPROM. Furthermore, data retention without refresh is estimated to be larger than 40 years. Furthermore, because of its self-programmability, these devices may write their own programme memory areas using internal software control
The PIC18F2550 has an optional expansion to the PIC18 instruction set that adds eight additional instructions and an Indexed Literal Offset Addressing mode to the PIC18 instruction set. This extension, which may be selected as a device configuration option, was created to optimise re-entrant application code written in high-level languages like C. It also has an Enhanced CCP Module, which provides 1, 2, or 4 modulated outputs in PWM mode for controlling half-bridge and full-bridge drivers. This device also contains an auto-shutdown functionality for silencing PWM outputs in the event of an interrupt or under particular situations, as well as an auto-restart option for reactivating outputs after the condition has passed.
