SW-520 is designed as two balls type single-direction tilt-sensitive trigger switch. This SW-520D tilt switch is one of the cheapest and robust Tilt sensors. This trigger switch is quite simple to replace in case of any fault. This sensor switch module offers very long life. Therefore used for permanent instalment.
SW-520D tilt sensor comes with two metallic beads with the output terminals projected to the inside. When the tilt switch lies horizontally on the plane, the two metallic balls rest on the floor and there will be no contact between terminals. Hence the terminals are opened. When the tilt sensor changed its position from horizontal to vertical, the metallic comes to rest in projected terminals. As the ball is metallic, when they rest on terminals and electrical contact is formed between two terminals. So the terminals are short-circuited.
When the tilt switch is further moved to a horizontal position again, the ball leaves the contact to rest on the floor as before. As a result, the terminal contact breaks making them open the circuit. So SW-520D output terminals open circuit when the body lies horizontal and is short circuit when the body is vertical. Hence using this tilt switch we can detect which plane the body is lying on. This tilt switch contact generates noise and cannot be connected to controllers directly. So we will connect this tilt switch to a simple op-amp comparator circuit to make a sensor module. This module output can be given to the controller or other systems for use appropriately.
