The TinySwitch family is the newest generation of Power Integrations’ industry-leading TinySwitch series of off-line switcher ICs. An off-line regulator is essentially a fully working integrated circuit. The TNY280PN has a 700 V power MOSFET, an oscillator, a high voltage switching current source, a current limit (user selectable), and thermal shutdown circuitry. The IC family employs the ON/OFF control mechanism. As a consequence, it offers a more aesthetically pleasing solution with lower system costs and higher power capacities. Unlike standard PWM (pulse width modulator) controllers, it modulates the output voltage using a simple ON/OFF control.
An off-line regulator is a comprehensive integrated circuit that includes all of the functions required to provide clean power to a tiny portable or handheld device. Alternatively, it can be utilised as part of a bigger SMPS or DC-DC converter. It also has a line-compensated excessive power protection system. As a result, across the full AC input voltage range, these devices drastically decrease the maximum overload power that may be given to the load. For high reflected voltage and high bus-voltage systems, the 700 V MOSFET simply allows for 80 percent de-rating. Meanwhile, with 5% load, it has an efficiency of more than 70%. As a result, designers are able to satisfy the demanding European standard specification requirements.
