This 5 Channel Line Tracking Sensor Module (TCRT5000L) is designed as a sensor board explicitly for use with line follower robots. This high sensitivity tracking sensor specifically for environmental impact is capable of accurately tracking complex black lines (white lines) for a simple black line tracking more comfortably. This module operates at a voltage range of 3.3-5.5v to meet the demand of most systems. Basically stronger the infrared reflection (white), the larger the output, the weaker the infrared radiation (black), and the smaller the output. Hence closer to the detector is to the black line, the smaller the output, so that the distance of the black line can be judged by the output analogue.
This IR reflective sensor Module is based on TCRT5000 IR Sensor IC is used to detect colour and distance. It consists of an IR transmitter & an IR receiver. IR Transmitter continuously emits IR signal which is then reflected back by an obstacle and is then detected by the IR receiver and output as an analogue value. The output analogue value is related to the object distance and the colour of the object. The TCRT500 sensor is simply a combination of a photodiode and a phototransistor.
The onboard potentiometer in the module was used to adjust the sensitivity. When the module is powered ON, the infrared diode will continuously emit the infrared rays. If the emitted infrared light has not been reflected or the strength is not big enough, the receiver diode remains in the off state and the output pin i.e. DO will be LOW. TCRT 5000 has a digital output. When the sensor detects an object, the output switches to 0V. If it does not detect any object, the output becomes 5V. This tracking sensor module provides a digital output(high and low) that easily connects to the microcontroller.
