The 74HC164 designed as CMOS Level 8-Bit, two Serial inputs based and Parallel output register used to increase the output pins of the microcontroller unit. The device -comes with two serial data inputs (DSA and DSB), eight parallel data outputs (Q0 to Q7). The data entered serially through DSA or DSB and either input often used as an active HIGH enable for data entry through the other input. Data is shifted on the LOW-to-HIGH transitions of the clock (CP) input. A LOW on the master reset input (MR) clears register and thereby forces all outputs LOW, independently of other inputs. Inputs include clamp diodes. This permits the utilization of current limiting resistors to interface inputs to voltages in more than VCC.
Since it function as 8-bit, it’s 8 output pins will be assumed as 8 output pins of any microcontroller unit. Thus, it asynchronously contains data serially in its input pins microcontrollers. And supply output on 8 different output pins. This again connects to Transistor switches, LEDs, or in other input pins of sensor or parallel interfaces.
